| WINNERS OF THE IMAGINARY JOURNEYS 2010 ‘TALL
TALES & LIKELY LEGENDS’ STORY COMPETITION FOR WRITERS UNDER 12. |
|
Whilst we didn’t have quite so many stories in this year’s competition as last year’s bumper crop, the seventy nine we did have were lively, interesting and fun to read. Many came in from Able Writers groups, featuring top writers from several different schools and organized by the National Education Trust, to whom we are grateful for their sponsorship of the book prizes.
Our judge this year was, Mary Medlicott, storyteller and author of Shemi’s Tall Tales and other titles. Mary received copies of the top 25 stories with no names or other details included, so had no idea that she was choosing our very talented first prize winner for the second year running! Well done Ella and all the other talented and very able young writers who sent in their stories. If you didn’t win a prize this year, you are in very good company.

£75 and a copy of Shemi’s Tall Tales: ELLA
RICHARDS
of Gosport, Hampshire, for her story 'The Legend of the Selfish King'. |
I am very pleased about winning this year as this is the last time I could enter and it shows that all my hard work did pay off! I found this year’s theme a bit harder than last year’s but I still enjoyed writing my story.
I love reading as well as writing and I have read lots of books including the Harry Potter Series, many Roald Dahl books, quite a few Michael Morpurgo books and I have nearly finished the Twilight series, one more book to go! I also love performing: I love dancing, playing the piano and I am fond of a bit of acting.
I live in a town called Gosport with my Mum, Dad and my 8 year-old sister Millie. I would like to thank them and other members of my family for all the support they have given me with my story writing.
Ella's winning story, 'The Legend of the Selfish
King' will be available to read here soon.
